    I have read them all. This novel has depth and dimension, and an excellent plot. Great character development...people you love, people you hate, people you dislike then almost like. Wealth competition in a small town. A few solid marriages, a few creeps. And the story is entertaining from start to finish. Sandford does it again. Rush out and buy this book!

    I'm an unabashed fan of the Prey books and the novels featuring Virgil "that f#*%in'" Flowers. Of all those books my favourite is Deadline, the Flowers' novel from a couple years back. This one is not a sequel but is set in the same town and reunites Virgil with Johnson Johnson, Clarice, Sheriff Purdy and other assorted citizens of the small in the Driftless Area. This novel is not as complicated as Deadline though the unexpected twist with first victim is interesting. It has the feel of one that was written quickly, perhaps because the plot is less convoluted. There's still the signature dialog gems which make reading these novels so enjoyable. Nobody writes better small talk conversation between characters than Sandford. The scene after the doctor, his wife and two drunk vigilantes have their encounter at the physicians house is a great example. Gave me a new respect for closet rods. Bottom line is that if your a fan, you'll enjoy this. If your just coming to these books it's a quick read and should make you look for the earlier books.

    Each Virgil Flowers book leads me to think the next in the series will disappoint me. Never happens, and I continue to lose sleep unwilling to stop reading until the last fast paced page.
